Richard J. Berner
Richard J. Berner, 76, of Whitehall, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was married to Constance M. (Lukish) Berner for 53 years. Born in Coplay, he was the son of the late Louis and Theresa (Nickischer) Berner. Richard (Dick) taught in Hellertown Lower-Saucon School District for 10 years and was the Director of Guidance at Whitehall High School for 31 years. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Moravian College class of 1958 and received his Master Degree from Lehigh University. Dick was involved in various organizations, including PIAA Track and Field, induction into and a member of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, and a member of the Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority. Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful, loving, caring husband, dad and granddad. Richard was an active member and usher for St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, North Catasauqua. Survivors: Wife; son, Mark and his wife Robyn of Whitehall; daughter, Marcy, wife of Kevin Turkovich, of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Megan Berner of Whitehall, Luke and Mark Turkovich of Pittsburgh; and brother, Alfred Berner of Whitehall. He was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. Services: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday December 3 in St. Andrews Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., N. Catasauqua. Call 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2 and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Walnut St., Catasauqua.
