Louis R. Hassay, Sr.
Louis R. Hassay, Sr., 73, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Anna Marie (Eike) Hassay. Lou and Anna Marie celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in January. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of Mary (Kuzma) Hassay of Allentown and the late Louis Hassay. Lou was a 1958 graduate of Liberty High School and studied at the University of Virginia and Bucknell University. He spent his early professional career in banking, with Union Bank of Bethlehem, Keystone Savings & Loan and the First National Bank of Allentown, where he was Manager and Assistant Vice President of the Hellertown Branch. Later, Lou was Director and Financial Secretary of the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Lions Club of Hellertown, where he served as a former Treasurer. Lou was a member of St. Johns Windish Lutheran Church in Bethlehem and served as a Director and Financial Secretary of the First Windish Fraternal Society of America. Survivors: His beloved wife, Anna Marie; daughter, Colleen Rekai and her husband Mark of Bethlehem; sons, Louis R. Hassay, Jr. and his wife Angela of Bethlehem and Andrew Hassay and his fiancee Susan Schoenly of Allentown; a brother, Robert Hassay and his wife Mary of Bethlehem; five grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher and Kelsey Hassay, Jalen Rekai and Linsey Hassay, her fiancee Devon Stuart and their daughter, Solara. Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Johns Windish Lutheran Church, 617 E. Fourth Street, Bethlehem. Friends may call Monday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday morning, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street, Bethlehem. Interment will be in the Holy Saviour Cemetery of Bethlehem.
