Mary (Bender) Janney, 94, of Elk Grove Road, Benton, died Thursday afternoon at her home. Born December 22, 1918 in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County, she was a daughter of the late Peter Leonard Bender and Ida (Hartzell) Bender. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jacob M. Jake Janney, on December 26, 2006. Mrs. Janney was a seamstress and worked for various dress factories in the area. She last worked for the former Dol-Ang Mfg. Co. in Benton, retiring in 1988. She was a charter member and past treasurer of the North Mountain Fire Company, a past president of the North Mountain Firemen Ladies Auxiliary, a past president of the Grassmere Garden Club, and a deputy constable for Davidson Township, Sullivan County. Her hobbies included hunting, gardening, embroidery, sewing, cooking for the hunting camp and spending time with her family. Many years ago she had a hand in bringing a physician to the Benton area. Survivors: Surviving are her seven children, Ronald J. Butch Janney, and his wife, Roxie, of Bethlehem, PA, Sandra L. Rosenberger, Benton, Linda M. Reily and her husband, Stuart, of Allentown, Barry D. Janney and his wife, Evelyn, of Benton, Judith A. Ashelman and her husband, Glen, of Stillwater, David W. Janney and his wife, Linda, of Benton, Susan G. Reabuck and her husband, Joseph, of Stillwater; also surviving are her 29 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, being preceded in death by seven siblings. Also preceding her in death, along with her husband, Jacob are five children, Robert L. Janney on September 3, 2011, Nancy Fox on October 15, 2009, Jacob C. Janney on Sept. 24, 2009, Daniel Janney on Oct. 10, 1996 and Irene Swartley on July 26, 2006. Services: Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at St. James Cemetery, Fishing Creek Township. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Sugarloaf Ambulance Association, c/o Howard Leh, Treas., 605 Camp Lavigne Rd., Benton, PA 17814.
