Deborah Schlereth Obituary

Deborah Ann Schlereth
Mrs. Schlereth, of Quakertown, PA died Monday, August 19, 2013, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Allendale, NJ, she was the daughter of Malachi and Evelyn (Carlough) Higgins. A 1957 graduate of Ramsey High School in NJ and a 1961 graduate (B.A.- English) of Connecticut College for Women, Deborah had a passion for English Literature, gourmet cooking, and animals (especially Golden Retrievers). She will be remembered for her sharp and clever wit, kindness and intelligence. She had an amazing ability to quote poems and passages from many great literary works; a favorite from the Wind in the Willows was Ducks Ditty: All along the backwater, Through the rushes tall, Ducks are a dabbling, Up tails all! Ducks tails, drakes tails, Yellow feet a-quiver, Yellow bills all out of sight, Busy in the River! Slushy green undergrowth Where the roach swim- Here we keep our larder, Cool and fun and dim. Everyone for what he likes! WE like to be Heads down, tails up, Dabbling free! High in the blue above Swifts whirl and call- WE are down a-dabbling Up tails all! Deborah was the loving and extremely devoted mother of Howard J. Schlereth II of Croydon, PA and Dr. David H. Schlereth of La Jolla, CA. She was the proud grandmother of June Schlereth. Survivors: She is survived by her sons, Howard J. Schlereth II and his wife Kim, parents of June; Dr. David H. Schlereth and his wife Mela; and brother Malachi E. Higgins of Coopersburg, PA. Services: A Memorial mass for Deborah will be held at the Church of the Guardian Angel, 320 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale, NJ 17401, (201) 327-4359, at 11am on Saturday, September 7. Jeffrey A.
