Robert S. Phillips
Robert S. Phillips, 75, of Neffs, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Schneck) Phillips. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last June 18. Born in Allentown, May 3, 1938, Robert was the son of the late David R. and Josephine (Dillon) Phillips. He was a graduate of Northampton High School, Class of 1956, participating in football, wrestling, and track. After graduation he spent a year at Valley Forge Military Academy and then a year at Cornell University. He graduated from Kutztown University in 1962 and earned a masters degree in Education from Lehigh University. Robert was a 5th grade elementary and middle school teacher in the Northwestern Lehigh School District, New Tripoli for 38 years before retiring in 2000 to spend time traveling and to be with his family. He was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, where he formerly served on the church council and was a member of the Journeymens Ministry Group. Survivors: In addition to his wife; daughters, Jan P. Keeler and her husband, Kevin, of Emmaus, Jill A. Schaffer and her husband, Terry, of Jim Thorpe, Joy A. Snyder and her husband, Eric, of Brodheadsville; brothers, Richard Phillips of Grass Valley, CA, Ronald Phillips of Gainesville, VA; five grandchildren, James, Alex, Kayla, Austin and Karyssa; great-grandson, Cole. Services: Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5500 PA Route 873, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Dennis W. Moore officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, in the church narthex. Private interment at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
