Paul H. Haydt
Paul H. Haydt, 90, formerly of Danielsville, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Clara E. (Bauer) Haydt, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2011. Born in Palmerton on March 25, 1923, he was a son of the late Henry and Grace (Henning) Haydt. Paul honorably served in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded five bronze stars for five battles in which he fought in Normandy, Northern France, Rheinstadt, Germany, and Central Europe. Prior to his retirement, Paul was employed by the former Moores Lumber & Building Supply Co. in Allentown as a salesman for 24 years. He also served as a constable of Northampton County for 20 years, and as a part-time police officer for Lehigh Township. Additionally, Paul assisted his son with the family seafood business known as Haydts Seafood, which was located in Walnutport and Quakertown. Earlier, he was employed by the former New Jersey Zinc Co., Palmerton. Paul was a member of Slatington Lodge No. 440 F. & A.M., Lehigh Consistory Valley of Allentown, Rajah Shrine, and Grundsow Lodge No. 11, Ashfield. He was also a member of the Oplinger-Hower American Legion Post 899, Walnutport where he served as a past Commander. Additionally, Paul was a member and past President of the Lehigh Township Lions Club where he was recognized for his outstanding community service and subsequently presented the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. He was also a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Cherryville. Survivors: He is survived by his loving son, Barry L. Haydt of Danielsville; nieces; and nephews. In addition to his late wife, Clara; he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Dorshimer Haydt; daughter, Denise E. Evans; infant son, Paul H. Haydt, Jr.; grandson, Curtis F. Evans, III; brother, Leon C. Haydt; and sister, DeVoe E. Heckman. Services: Will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., in the George G. Bensing Funeral Home, Inc., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, Village of Moorestown-Bath, PA 18014. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home with a Masonic service at 2 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Danielsville Union Cemetery, Lehigh Township.
