Daddy, I miss you so badly. Not a day goes by that I don't grieve your absence. Boo passed away recently, and I will never forget the joy in your face when you first met her. Every time I said her name, I thought about Atticus Finch, Boo Radley (from whom I derived my nickname), and the principles Atticus held that you embodied as well. When do these tears stop?

The Hettinger Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you today as you place your dear Al to rest. I am a high school classmate of his, and I have lived my whole life reflecting on the joy of having had Al's friendship during that youthful period. After college, our paths again crossed at Harvard; he in the law school, and I in the philosophy department. I remember fondly those drives Al made possible for me to North Shore resort communities during that period.

I will miss him greatly; I share your heavy loss.

Dear family of Mr. Al Hettinger

Mr. Hettinger will be remembered by those in the Pa. Assessor's Assoc. for his excellent counsel facilitating fair and equitable real estate taxation in Pa. He was known for interjecting themes, wit & "no holds barred" opinions into his presentations to the Pa. real estate assessment community. He was always willing to lend his creative thinking and legal expertise. You will be missed Al and thanks for everything.

Dear Joanne,
On behalf of Fellowship Community I want to extend to you and your family our deepest sympathies over the passing of Alfred. He was a very gracious man and it was our privilege to have had a part in his care. I trust that he sensed something of the Love of Christ in our care for him, and that he took much comfort from the promises of God for those whose faith is in the Lord Jesus.
I pray God's good comfort to be yours during these days.
With heart-felt sympathy,
Rev. Jacob J. Susek, Jr.

Al's brilliance as a student and attorney have ben well noted. But I shall recall him as a kind and generous man. While a student at then Allentown High, he had a regular route he would travel to give his friends (I was one of them,) a lift in his car. As we were both active on the school newspaper, he was always there to provide a ride home. We saw one another frequently his last year at Harvard Law in Cambridge, where he continued to compile a distinguished record--this in between catching some Celtic basketball games. I should mention that while at AHS, Al was also president of the Debate society. We lost touch for a while--I knew nothing of his military record--fortunately we were able to renew friendships along with Terry Pypiuk and Donnie Belasco at our 50th class reunion and at every one after that--as we age they should come more frequently. But Al will always be present in our book of memory, as we mourn the absence of this dear, dear friend.
