Chris Alan Matten

1953 - 2015

Chris Alan Matten, 62 of Annapolis, MD passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Kalispell Regional Hospital, Kalispell, MT. Born in Allentown, PA, June 22, 1953 he was the son of the late Elwood Luther Charles and Helen Mae (Schantzenbach) Matten. A graduate from Catasauqua High School, he attended the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Texas at Austin. As an educator, he was on the faculties of Baylor University and Southwestern University, TX. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Armed Forces Bicentennial Band from 1975-76, and The United States Air Force Band, Washington, DC from 1983-2008. A lifelong performing musician, Chris was most recently active with the Annapolis Chorale, Brass of the Potomac, Concert Artists of Baltimore, and the Kennedy Center Orchestra. He is survived by his wife, Erica Montgomery of Annapolis, MD; son, Noah Matten of Baltimore MD; daughters, Erin Martin and her husband Adam of Statesboro, GA, Kelly McGregor and her husband Michael of Annapolis, MD; four grandchildren, Connor A. Martin, Anna Kate McGregor, Jackson M. McGregor and Jonathan M. McGregor; brothers, William Matten and wife Ellen of State College, PA, Dean Matten and wife Betsy of Evans, CO; sister, Karen Morgan and husband Foster of Allentown, PA; nieces and nephews; former wife, Claire Corcoran of Baltimore, MD.
