Matthew A. Koch
Matthew A. Koch, 23, Army specialist in C Co., 70th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st armor division, of West Henrietta, N.Y., died in an accident which occurred in Taji, Iraq on Wednesday, March 9, 2005. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Diane L. (Fenstermaker) Worman of West Henrietta and Dale B. Koch of Gilbert, Ariz. Matthew was a 1999 graduate of Parkland High School and a member of Greenawalds United Church of Christ, Allentown. Matthew was a brave soldier, who made the greatest sacrifice anyone could ever make for everyone elses freedom. He was previously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon and medals for service in fight against terrorism. Matthew was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart after his death. Survivors: With his parents is a sister, Stephanie L. Koch of Vancouver, Wash.; half brother, Aric E. Koch of Gilbert; half sister, Gretchen Koch of Gilbert; maternal grandmother, Rita C. Fenstermaker of Allentown; stepfather, James J. Worman of West Henrietta; stepmother, Madeline Koch of Gilbert; stepbrothers, John Worman of Rochester, N.Y., Jeff Worman of San Diego, Calif., Jim A. Worman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; aunts, uncles, cousins. Matthew was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Dale H. Fenstermaker, and paternal grandparents, Stanley B. and Lydia B. Koch. Services: military, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the ODonnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Avenue, Allentown. There will be calling periods from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Hanover Township. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Matthew Koch Vocational Scholarship Fund, c/o the funeral home.
