John Julius Donchez, 89, formerly of Palmerton, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 in Sardis Oaks Nursing Center, Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Donchez was the husband of the late Catherine (Romanisko) Donchez, with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage. Born in Palmerton, where he lived for 85 years, Mr. Donchez was a son of the late George and Mary (Gyscek) Donchez. Mr. Donchez was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, with the 100th Depot Supply Squadron of the Army Air Corps and in the Korean War. Mr. Donchez retired in 1980 from the former New Jersey Zinc Company, Palmerton, where he had worked for 44 years. Mr. Donchez was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 269, Palmerton; Knights of Columbus, Lafayette Council 2522, Palmerton and the Hungarian Club, Palmerton. Mr. Donchez lived a life of generosity and service to his family. Survivors: He is survived by his son, George Donchez and his wife, Debbie, of Bowling Green, Ky.; daughter, Barbara J. Cunningham and her longtime friend, Yvonne Stewart, of Edgemoor, S.C.; two grandsons, Adam and Tyler Donchez of Bowling Green; brother, Edward and his wife, Myrtle Donner, of Yardley; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Ethel Korpics, Helen Doncsecz, Mary Henninger and Annie Heklar. The family wishes to express special thanks to the wonderful care Mr. Donchez received at Sardis Oaks Nursing Center and to St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Charlotte.
