Abbie K. Cooke HICKORY Abbie Pricilla Kent Cooke, 90, of Hickory, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Brian Center in Viewmont. Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late William "Bill" and Mamie Thomas Kent. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul John Cooke; three sisters, Sally, Mary, and Ruth; and two brothers, Edward and Bill. She is survived by her son, Ronald L. Cooke and partner, Michael Prewitt, of Hickory; daughter, Paula C. Hammer and husband, Cyril, of Hickory; two grand-daughters, Lori Sykes and husband, Gerald, of Clemmons, N.C. and Amy Scronce and husband, Tracy, of Newton; three great-grandsons, Jordan Sykes, Austin Sykes, and Tyler Scronce; seven nieces, Pricilla Owenby, Linda Wolfe, Melissa McKinney, Abbie Kay Hollar, Elizabeth Lytle, Rebecca Condrey, and Martha Gryder; and nephews, Hal Syler, John Kent, Randy Kent, Sammy Kent, Steve Raines, Lane Cook, Jr., and Robert Hunter. A service of remembrance was held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory. Dr. Jay Robison officiated. Burial followed at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family received friends Saturday, prior to the service in the gathering room at the church. Memorials may be made to Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory.
