Rivas, Arthur - Los Banos  
ARTHUR RIVAS FEBRUARY 13, 1922 - APRIL 25, 2016 On the morning of April 25, 2016 Arthur Rivas passed away peacefully, he was 94 years old. Arthur Rivas was born in Los Angeles, CA.  At a young age Art's family of five brothers and four sisters moved to Oakdale, CA.  This is where the Rivas family called home. At the age of 17, Art joined the Army of the United States.  Art served WWII in the 670th Air Material Squadron as a Sargent.  He specialized as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic (747) and Airplane Instrument Specialists (B-17, B-25 Aircraft).  After serving his country in WWII, Art moved to Modesto to complete his education.  Art graduated from Modesto Junior College specializing in the "Plumbing Trade." Art decided at that time to move where to Los Banos where he found his golden opportunity with the first plumbing business in Los Banos with Gardeners Plumbing.  Mr. Gardener saw great potential in Art Rivas and hired him.   Art worked for Gardeners Plumbing for over 38 years.  Art had a passion for pottery and tile.  Many would say he was a Tile Expert, he enjoyed building colorful pots and tables; and would work endless hours in his workshop creating beautiful masterpieces.  Art's family proudly showcases Art's pots in their homes.  He also designed and built a beautiful tile kitchen where his wife Toni enjoyed cooking delicious meals for him.   Art spent many hours in his vegetable garden so he could share fresh vegetables with his family to enjoy with their families. He belonged to the Veteran of Foreign Affairs, American Legion, and United Assoc. of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #442.    Art is survived by his wife of 37 years, Toni Rivas; children from late wife Virginia Rivas:  Nancy Rivas, Joe Rivas, both of Los Banos, Sam (Rosie) Rivas of Modesto & Daniel (Tanya) Rivas of Hesperia; stepchildren include Ralph (Lauretta) Reyes of San Diego, Cecilia Gomes, Sandra (Bob) Warner and Rosita Reyes of Los Banos; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; brothers:  Ray, Ben, and Sonny Romo , Tito Esparza and sister Hortencia Machado. Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, 12:00 noon at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 1840 S. Center Ave., Los Banos.  Burial will follow at the Los Banos District Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapel~Los Banos.
