Crow, Judith Ann
Judith Ann Crow Jan. 22, 1944- July 1, 2015 Judy grew up in the small mining town of Santa Rita, near Silver City, NM. She attended Santa Rita Elementary School where her father, Frannie Ray was a teacher. She went on to attend Cobre High School, graduating in 1962. After two years at Western NM University she married and moved to California for a brave new life. She completed her BA at Sacramento State, moved to Merced and soon was blessed with her son Christopher. Teaching young children was always her wish, and for 33 years she taught in the elementary grades, first at St. Lukes School in Merced, then at Planada Elementary before retiring. In 1983 Judy married Kenneth Crow and they recently celebrated 32 years of marriage.. She appreciated the love and laughter he brought to their lives and for his strength and support at the end. Many of her fond memories were of a European tour of many countries by land, taking granddaughters Paige and Katie to New York City, playing tennis, and many wide ranging golf trips with friends. Judy loved people and enjoyed staying active in her community, such as AAUW, Merced County Arts Council, and Friends of the Library, to name only a few. She also served, along with Ken providing dental care on an African Medical Mission in 2006. Especially memorable was the two days driving through lion country at the end of the trip. Judy has always been especially fond of animals, large or small. She would never smash a spider, just relocate it. After diagnosis, Judy did not consider herself dying of cancer, but rather living in spite of it. She peacefully let go of this life the evening of July 1st at her home, family at her side. Judy wished to mention these special people who preceded her in death; her father Francis "Frannie" Ray; her Mother's brother, Richard "Bud" Heyne; and her stepfather, Benjamin Sherman. Judy's memory is held fondly by those who survive her, including her husband, Ken, her Mother, Jan Sherman; her brother, Jeff Ray; her son, Chris Russell (Ellie), her stepson. Loren Crow (Dana), her stepdaughter Nancy Tuck, a combined 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and countless friends and students who she taught. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, July 17 at 11: AM at Central Presbyterian Church, 1920 Canal St., Merced. A reception will follow at the Hoffmeister Center. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate remembrances be made to the Hinds Hospice 410 W. Main St. Suite A, Merced, or Friends of the Merced Co. Library, PO Box 2463, Merced. www.cvobituaries.com
