Granado, Hermelinda - Merced  
Hermelinda Salzar Granado was born on June 12, 1931 in Madera, California to parents Jesus and Ernestina Salazar. She passed away peacefully at her home as she wished on August 20, 2015 in Merced, California at the age of 84. Hermelinda was the wife and longtime partner to Rudy R. Granado for over 60 plus years. Hermelinda was a longtime resident of Merced since 1954. She established a career and retired from Davis Food Processing Company (locally). She was a beacon of light when recognized by family and friends and when she spotted a friend or family member she always had a friendly smile and a warm heart. She was very giving and thoughtful to others as well as very self-determined and strong will. Hermelinda was preceded in death by her husband Rudy R. Granado on January 18, 2011. She is survived by her three sons; Manuel Pinto, Cosme and Art Granado a daughter-in-law, Yolanda, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home located at 901 W. Main Street in Merced. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 562 W. 13th St, in Merced. Hirschfeld, Iva Mae - Merced  
Iva Mae Hirschfeld, age 90, passed away, Wednesday, August 26, 2015. She was born November 14, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Fred and Albina Whitcomb. Iva Mae and her love Herbert Chester Hirschfeld grew up in Chicago and was united in Marriage on August 12, 1945. Herbert was in the United States Air Force and was a Methodist Minister. Iva Mae was always by his side. They both started two Methodist Churches. Iva Mae was an extremely giving person. She always put people first. Some of her hobbies included knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed puzzles and collecting elephants. Iva Mae loved to travel to Hawaii. She is survived by her daughters, Janaan Sorenson and Cathy Schurr, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jefferies, John - Atwater  
JOHN M. JEFFERIES JANUARY 7, 1936 - AUGUST 1, 2015 John "Papa" Jefferies, 79, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Saturday, August 1, 2015, in Atwater, following a courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Ogden, Utah on January 7, 1936 to his adoptive parents Milnor and Marian Jefferies. He was raised in Boise, Idaho graduating from Boise High School in 1954. He attended Boise Junior College before transferring to Utah State University where he earned his degree in Industrial Management in 1960. Prior to attending college, he served in the Construction Branch of the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1962, John relocated to California to work as a Cost Engineer for PG&E on a Shasta Dam Project. He then joined Dravo Corp. as a Materials Manager for the reconstruction of the Exchequer Dam. In 1966, John went to work for Flintkote's Standard Materials Division in Merced as an estimator and progressed through a series of sales and management positions to end his career with Genstar as Vice President and General Manager. Following Genstar, John worked for J.L. Bray & Son until his retirement in 1991. John loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was actively involved in his grandchildren's sports and extracurricular activities. The grandchildren always looked forward to playing cards at Papa and Nana's house. John was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Merced Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a 50 year member of the Elks Lodge and was the Scholarship Chairman for several years. He officiated youth, high school, and college football. John was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda  Jefferies Enriquez, (John). John leaves his wife of 40 years, Marie; his son, John C. Jefferies (Susan), daughters, Mary Ann Jefferies Tatum (Tim), Nancy Jefferies Stephan (Bill), Stepson, Ron Gonzales (Anna), and Stepdaughter, Richelle Gonzales Minor (Blas). John also leaves thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Papa was a great and generous person who loved unconditionally. He had a wonderful and loving sense of humor that not only made you smile, but always "got his point across". He was a mentor for his children and grandchildren, as well as many of their friends. He had a magical connection with young people because he demanded respect, set high standards and set a great example. No man is indispensable but some are irreplaceable.  He will be dearly missed! A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Merced Golf and Country Club, 6333 Golf Rd, Merced at 11:00 AM. Johnston, Ronald - Merced  
Ronald James Johnston Dec. 1, 1953 - Aug. 23, 2015 A Life Tribute      It is with great sadness that we note that Ron Johnston has passed away.    Ron was born to a military family when they were stationed in Merced while his Dad was in the Korean War.      He is survived by his Wife, Paula Johnston, his Mother, Dorothy (Dot) Johnston, his Brother, Doug Johnston of San Diego, a Sister, Jacquie Fletcher and nieces and nephews, Jenny Johnston Webster, Heather Johnston, Kyle Fletcher, Ryan Fletcher, Kearsten Fletcher and Amber Fletcher.   His Father, Spencer (Bud) Johnston is deceased.      Ron earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and obtained a State Contractors license.  He went on to create the Pacific Landscape business in Merced.  Ron was a kind hearted man where his concern was in providing jobs and an income for his employees who had helped him become a successful business man.    He had a sense of humor and was known for his pranks through college and his career.       He enjoyed living life on the edge doing various high risk hobbies which included racing cars in autocrosse and Formula D cars on all major tracks.  He also performed acrobatics in a P-51 Mustang and Stearman biplane. He liked hot dogging the dunes of Pismo Beach in the three and four wheelers or flying his helicopter and Mooney plane.  He was a Nationals competitor on his Hobie Cat 18.   He always wanted to try something new and exciting.      Ron had three cats that brought comfort and happiness to him at his office.  These three cats are now orphans and need to be adopted by a family willing to take care of them. Kimball, Jeanne - Atwater  
JEANNE KIMBALL DEC. 27, 1934-AUG. 24, 2015 Jeanne Kimball age 80 went home to our Lord on August 24th 2015.  She was born 12/27/34 in Mount Clements Mich. She met and married her husband Burton Kimball July 4th 1953. Burton retired from the Air Force in 1974 they moved to Atwater.   She is survived by her brother Robert Posey, sister, Connie Bennett, brother Denny Posey and 3 daughters Susan Kimball of Modesto, Luanne Williams of Las Vegas and Charlene Frederick of Atwater and 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Burton Kimball and son David Kimball.  Jeanne retired from Merced College and was a graduate of Merced College. She loved to play cards with her close friends Dave and Carolyn Long. She loved quilting, singing in St Anthony's church choir which she had done for almost 30 years,  traveling all over the world,  going to yard sales with her daughter and family gatherings.  She is known for her friendly Beautiful smile, great laugh, funny sense of humor and kind heart. She will be missed by her numerous friends and family.  Rosary will be held at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel on Sunday August 30th at 6pm and Funeral Mass will be at Saint Anthony's Church in Atwater on Monday August 31st at 11:30am.
