LEE A. BAKER
JULY 27, 1929 - AUGUST 28, 2013
Lee Alan Baker was born in Jamestown, North Dakota on July 27, 1929 and passed away on August 28, 2013 in Modesto, he was 84.
Lee attended grammar school in Jamestown, North Dakota. In 1944 the Baker family relocated to Los Banos where Lee graduated from Los Banos High School in 1949. In 1951 he was drafted into the military and served two years in Korea. Lee returned to Los Banos and married his high school sweetheart, Emily Souza in 1953. He worked as a mechanic at Paradiso Automotive, and later worked for Gardner's Plumbing before becoming an air conditioning contractor and opening his own business "Baker's Air Conditioning ".
Lee was a volunteer at the Los Banos Fire Department for 37 years. During that time, he proudly served as the Engineer and as Fire Captain. In 1999 Lee was named Veteran Fireman of the Year. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a man of many talents. His proudest accomplishment was building his cabin in North Fork where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His 60 years of marriage was celebrated on May 17, 2013.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife Emily; Four Children: Ann Chasey (Don), Donna Mendes (Artie), Ken Baker, and Janet Souza; Five Grandchildren : Dusty and Cory Mendes, Tyler and Tessa Souza, and Colin Chasey; Two Great Grandchildren: Samuel and Sophia Honesto. Lee is preceded in death by his parents Al and Mabel Baker and a sister, Beryl Dunston.
Services will begin on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 with a visitation 5:00-7:00 at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. there will be a funeral mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church; burial will follow at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
