UMBERTO PETRONI Obituary
Umberto "Bert" Petroni was born September 18, 1922 in Dos Palos, California to Pietro and Argene Petroni. He graduated from Dos Palos High School in 1941, where he was a member of the Dos Palos football team and FFA Chapter. After graduation, he joined his father in the family dairy. He had many talents and helped build his family home. He met his future wife the former Mary Scarciolla through the Italian Catholic Federation and they were married January 13, 1951. They had two daughters. He retired from the dairy and went into farming in the 50's. He grew alfalfa, cotton and corn. He retired from farming in 1988.
He was a member of the Dos Palos Co-Op Gin, life member of the Italian Catholic Federation and Knights of Columbus. He was also on the Dos Palos Cemetery Board. He was very active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Dos Palos. He was an excellent cook and helped with many dinners in the parish and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pietro and Argene Petroni; and sister, Lidia Amoroso.He is survived by his wife, Mary Petroni of Merced; two daughters, Janet Pugliese of Merced and Linda Maneri and her husband Anthony of Colorado; two grandchildren, Nick Pugliese and Gina Pugliese both of Merced. He was Uncle Bert to many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Amie Marchini and her wonderful caregivers, along with Hinds Hospice for the support they provided.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, CA. Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hinds Hospice, P.O. Box 763 Merced, California 95341 or to donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.

Janet my condolences go out to you and your family, your Dad was one of my favorite customers when they lived here in Dos Palos. He was such a kind person.

My Condolences to the Petroni family,
back when I was a young kid, working on his farm I looked up to him like a father. He was always there to help me and my family in anyway

I send my condolences for the loss of your love one. I have known Mr Petroni all of my life and he was a friend of my parents. He was a very good person and will be missed. They will now meet up again in heaven and continue their friendship. May you rest in peace...
