FRANCISCO SANTOS Obituary

October 9, 1945 - November 17, 2010

Francisco was born in Las Cruces, Lagos de Moreno, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico to Esteban and Antonia Santos. He was the fourth born of nine children.

He was eight years old when he immigrated to this country with his parents and siblings. Life was not easy for him and his family when they first settled in McAllen, Texas. Their stay in Texas did not last very long... California was the place to be. So the family packed their belongings and headed west.

They settled in the small community of Etiwanda. Here Frank (as he was now called) went to school. As he grew, he traveled with his family during the summer months following the harvest in the central valley. From tomatoes and peaches in Merced to prunes in Gilroy and back to Etiwanda in time for the grape harvest. This was a way of life for the Santos family until the untimely tragic death of his brother, Benito. The family settled in Merced and never returned to the migrant lifestyle.

He moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1979. While in Melbourne he worked in a seafood restaurant for many years. He loved living in Melbourne for it was close to the beach. In his later years he worked as a landscaper. Frank was a free spirit and had a wonderful laugh. He would always call his mother and siblings and expressed his love. He enjoyed life to the fullest until the day he died.

He will be missed greatly by those left behind. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa and grandchildren Elisa and Mathew. His mother, Antonia Gomez Santos, brothers Maximo, Efren, Jesus and Jose Santos; and sisters Margaret (Lambert) and Soledad (Rubio). In addition, many nephews, nieces and friends have been left behind to remember him.

Rest in peace within the loving arms of our heavenly father until we meet again.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Merced. The Rosary will be at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Internment at 10:00 am. Graveside services will be private.
