May 01, 1916-May 03, 2014
Millard Hauser (Lt. Col. USAF Retired) was born on May 1, 1916 in Mankato, Minnesota to Reverend and Mrs. F. W. Hauser. He attended public schools in Minnesota and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1937. He served as a pilot in the Air Force for 23 years. He flew B-25s in combat during WWII over the Aleutian Islands and was among the first pilots to fly the Berlin Air Lift. He married Dorothy Eberhart on September 4, 1943 and remained happily married to her until her death in 2006. In 1955, Millard was stationed in Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, California. He retired from the Air Force in 1964 and then worked for Merced County as a social worker, retiring from that position in 1977.
Millard was a charter member of the Military Officers Association of America as well as NAUS. He attended church at the Methodist Church in Atwater and more recently he attended Christian Life Center in Merced. He and Dottie were also members of the Sunland Village East Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona where they spent winter months for many years. He enjoyed the many cruises that Dottie 'planned'. He also looked forward to 'coffee hour' at Paul's Restaurant, at Castle Vista, and social hour and golf at Sunland Village. Of course, he greatly relished his daily polish sausage at Costco in Merced and in Mesa. He was known well at both food courts.
Millard is survived by his daughters, Pam West of Atwater (Jim) and Barbara Romero of Sacramento (Allen), and his son, Robert Hauser of Fresno (Linda). He has six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Millard passed peacefully, having just reached age 98. He said that he sent God several e-mails during the last year asking God to bring him home. God replied, "Come now".
