RICHARD MACIAS Obituary

January 2, 1935 - October 13, 2010

Richard "Dickie" Macias went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 13, 2010. He left behind his wife of 55 years, Jeannette Victoria Macias and four children Nicolette Macias Massasso, Victor Macias (Vicki), Richie Macias (Christie) and John Macias and his grandchildren Nina Massasso, Eric Macias, Ashley Macias, Alison Macias, Anthony Macias and two great-grandchildren Natalina Navarro and David Macias.

He was born in Fresno and then moved to Merced Falls where he was raised by parents Leo and Sara Macias. He attended elementary school at John Muir and graduated from Merced Union High in 1954 then went on to Modesto Junior College and Fresno State College. He was an all around athlete and was the last top athlete to receive the "Block M" blanket from Merced High.

He worked for the Coors Brewery as a draft representative for approximately 24 years until he retired. He then purchased his own power sweeping business known as Guarantee Sweepers for the past 30 years. His happiest moments were being surrounded by his family and all his grandchildren at family dinners and holiday celebrations and morning coffee at Denny's. His favorite trip was the annual family reunion at Kennedy Meadows during Labor Day week where he rode his horse on the trail with his buddy for the past 28 years. He will be greatly missed by all and touched the lives of many by his constant generosity and kindness.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Merced, followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:00 am.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.

Dear Jeannette and Family,
My brother Gary called me to let me know of Dickie's passing. I was so very sorry to hear about your loss. I know this must be a very difficult time for all of you. There are no words to ease the pain of Dickie's death so I won't even try. What I do want you to know is that I am happy that the two of you had a long, loving and committed marriage. That is so rare in these times and you were both greatly blessed. I know you and your family will have many warm, funny and loving memories that will comfort you and bring joy from the rememberings. Share them often with each other. In this way those memories will easy the pain and help to heal your broken hearts. It sounds, from other notes, that Dickie turned out to be a fine, gentle, considerate and loving and hardworking man. Could anyone ask for more from a man? He seemed to have all the bases covered.
I remember him fondly from my youth. You know he was my first boyfriend/crush and so he held a special place in my heart. He was a great kid and it sounds like he carried that through into his manhood. I wish I had known him better as an adult. It was always great to see the two of you at class reunions. Those won't be the same anymore that is for sure. I also want you to know how much I appreciated his honoring my mother by being a pallbearer for her funeral. I know she would have loved that as he was always special to her. He was just a lovely person. I am happy that you have a close and loving family to give you comfort during this most difficult time of your life. Let them wrap them in the warmth of their love and begin the slow process of healing from this terrible loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. With Fond Memories and Deep Sympathy, Armita Jean Luchini

To my dear friend Nicki and family:

I am truly sorry for the loss of your loved one, Richard; truly a remarkable man. Though I didn't have the privilege of knowing him longer, he always made me feel like family when I was around. It was an honor for me to have known him.

May all the memories of the family's times spent at Kennedy Meadows console your very souls and fill your hearts with the joy, happiness and laughter that Richard would want you all to have during this short moment in darkness.

My sincerest condonlences,

Stan Scott
