Rose Plagenza passed away peacefully on January 4. She was born in Boston Massachusetts on November 1, 1924 to Onofrio and Maria Renda. As one of 11 children, she learned the value of a close knit family and hard work. She graduated from Boston Trade School and became a professional seamstress. She met the love of her life, Joseph Plagenza, and waited four years for him to return from World War II. They married and moved to Merced in 1948 and raised their seven children on a dairy farm south of town.
Rose was well known for her large Italian dinners and delicious pastries. As a member of the Merced Colony Grange, she was often in the kitchen stirring a big pot of rigatoni pasta or slicing up homemade apple pies.
She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Joseph, and seven children; Patty Seward (Scott), Salvatore Plagenza (Pam), Donna Plagenza, Joanne Gravano (Robert), Marie Wakelee, Joseph Plagenza II and Anthony Plagenza. She also leaves her 23 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
A Viewing will be held at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, 901 W. Main Street in Merced from 4PM - 8PM, Friday, January 13, 2017. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14 at 8:30 AM at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced.
