Born April 16, 1921 in Wagner, Oklahoma, passed from this life September 27, 2013 at the age of 92, he passed at home in Dos Palos after a brief illness he was surrounded by his loved ones.
 
Rufus was preceded in death by his loving wife June Florence and beloved son Raymond Barney.
 
Rufus is survived by his daughters Kathy and Raetta and son Calvin. Also blessed with grandsons Lance and Caylin, great-grandson D'Angelo, and gradndaughters Lisanne, Lacey, Hallee, and Hannah. As well as daughter in law Suzannne and Son in law Ray.
 
Rufus left Oklahoma to join the Army in 1942 and served overseas in France anf Germany, being discharged in 1946 from Camp Dodge, Iowa. He returned to Oklahoma for two and a half years, then making his way to Southern California where he went with his wife June. They were married in Las Vegas an May 29th, 1949, then making their way to Central San Joaquin Valley to reside in the Merced / Atwater area where they started their family in 1950, while working at Atwater Creamery as well as farming sweet potatoes. As their family grew he found a need for corn silage harvesting for dairies in the surrounding areas. Upon hearing of employment at San Luis he was able to use his wartime experiences in the Army Corp of Engineers, to obtain a job as a heavy equipment operator as well as expanding his silage business, that prompted his move to Los Banos / Dos Palos area in 1962, where he resided until his death.
 
Rufus retired in 1988, passing the business onto his son Calvin. At that time he developed an interest in raising and breeding English Shive Draft horses, continuing his passion until 2000.
 
At that time he became involved in the American Legion and their activities and enjoyed fishing and his loving family, until his untimely death at home with his family.
 
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Americam Legion in Dos Palos care of Walt Gamel. The family would like to give a special thanks to Roy Hart and Lindy Merrel Comer for their help in their time of need.  A visitation and Funeral Service will begin at 11:30am on Friday October 4th, 2013 at Fierro Family Funeral Home in Dos Palos, Burial to follow at Dos Palos District Cemetery
