VIRGINIA GANDY Obituary



Virginia Gandy, age 81 long time resident of Merced , died Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Abilene , Texas . Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion in Coleman, Texas.

Virginia was born June 19, 1929 in Dallas , Texas to the late Dan and Iva Wesson Hammonds. She married Richard Gandy on April 21, 1967 in Carson City , Nevada . They then lived in Merced , California where Virginia was a collection supervisor for the Credit Bureau. Virginia was a past president of the State American Legion Auxiliary in California and had belonged to the local chapter in Atwater , CA until moving back to Coleman, Texas in 1990.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Gandy of Coleman; Sylvia Giordano of Atwater and Jacky Major of Merced; two sisters, IvaDell Elkins of Pryor, Oklahoma and Judy Rylee of San Angelo, Texas; four brothers, Jackie Hammonds, James Hammonds, and Danny Hammonds all of Coleman, Texas, David Hammonds of Grand Junction, Colorado; five grandchildren, Darla Andres of Atwater, California, Carroll Ann Ramos, Jacob Major, Joseph Major all of Merced, California and Patricia Sibley of Coleman, Texas. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patricia Kutzer.
