Marvin Casserd Obituary

Marvin Frank Casserd
Oct. 22, 1927 - Jan. 22, 2014
Resident of La Selva Beach
Services were held in Santa Cruz , January 29th, for Marvin Casserd, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at his home, in La Selva Beach. Born in Seattle, he grew up in Port Angeles and Bremerton, Washington. Known in high school as Big Red, Marvin played varsity football and track and was on several leadership councils at Bremerton High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in occupied Germany. Attending University of Washington where he was a member of the ZBT fraternity he made many friends for life and met his future wife, Judy. After receiving his Bachelor's degree at UW, he attended Hastings School of Law. Following in his father's footsteps, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Elks Club. Marvin & Judy moved to Saratoga, California in 1955 with children Linda and Michael, where the youngest, Marcus, was later born. For more than 36 years, Marvin was employed at National Can Co. in Sunnyvale, CA and upon leaving National Can, he joined D'Arrigo Foods in Salinas, CA in the field of Labor Relations. Marvin was an avid outdoorsman, accomplished hunter, passionate fisherman, excellent swimmer and loved to play golf. He loved watching football with friends and family; particularly his beloved UW Huskies and the 49ers. When he became a grandfather he was fondly known as G-pa, and took on a father figure role to a new generation.
Marvin is survived by his wife Judy of La Selva Beach, son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Juanita of La Selva Beach and son, Marcus of Bellingham, Washington. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda in 1999, and also leaves his seven grandchildren: Nicheal, Lyssette, Lacey, Paul, Benjamin, Marissa, and Colin; along with his five great grandchildren: Jacob, Sophia, Samuel, Mason, and Liliana and his much loved brother-in-law Charlie and brother and sister-in-law Phil and Phyllis and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services were held on January 29th at Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery in Santa Cruz, where he was laid to rest beside his daughter Linda. Any kind acts of charity may be made in his memory to Jacob's Heart.
