Atha Jane 'AJ' Haywood
Resident of Stockton Formerly of Los Gatos
Atha Jane "AJ" Haywood, 86, passed away September 14, 2013, in Stockton, California. Atha was born in Granbury, Texas, on July 29, 1927, to William and Ophelia Haywood. Atha was destined to educate as a young lady, working as a student teacher at New Trier High School in Evanston, Illinois. She followed her destiny by attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, obtaining her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She continued her studies a 5th year at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. She taught at Los Gatos High School for 38 years. AJ was a member of the History Club of Los Gatos, the Order of the Eastern Star of California - Stockton Chapter, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Chi State, promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Atha is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ophelia Haywood, and her sister, Alilea Martin. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Bonnie. She was a kind soul who loved life and will be missed by those who were blessed to have met her.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane, in Lodi, California. Inurnment will be held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to assist in Atha's arrangements. Miss Haywood was a wonderful teacher. I remember fondly as my English teacher at Los Gatos High School.

Had you for Senior Lit at Los Gatos High in 1983. Thank you for being such an excellent teacher! Remember you chewing the class out for not reading the Scarlet Letter... and you were right! RIP...
