Died peacefully following a lengthy illness. Tony is one son out of 15 children born to Adelaide and Joaquin (Jack) Goularte family, with long history of farming and ranching in Warm Springs and Newark areas. Tony grew up in Warm Springs area, went to school at Warm Springs Elementary, Washington High, and some college at Cal Poly Tech. Tony proudly served during WWII in Navy as gunner's mate. On July 16, 1950, Tony married Rita Strano in Newark, CA. Rita was the love of his life. They raised four children together. He was active member of St. Edwards Church and Men's Club. He was a member of Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (PFSA) in Newark, CA. Tony retired in 1987 from Ames Research Center/NASA in Mountain View, CA as Branch Chief for 9X7 Wind Tunnel. After retirement, Tony got into woodworking and enjoyed making custom made toys.
Tony had three great loves, family, hunting and fishing. He hunted at Grimmer's Ranch with Golden Gate Hunting Club. That was his greatest joy since he could hunt with his lifelong buddy, Tony Maciel. Tony was also a great story teller. He loved to reminisce and told stories about growing up in a large Portuguese family, talked about his fishing and hunting stories.
Left to mourn are his family; wife Rita; children; Anthony Goularte Jr. (Barbara Goularte) of Port Orchard, WA, Rita Wager (David Wagner) of Glenwood Springs, CO, Kathleen Buob (Gary Buob) of San Jose, CA, Paul Goularte of Fremont, CA. Grandchildren; Amber McKinney (Mitch McKinney) , CPO Zach Buob , Andrea Cisneros (Brent Cisneros) , Michael Goularte, Wesley Flett, and Dana Goularte. Three great grandchildren and soon-to-be great granddaughter Cisneros (due December). Two living brothers and one sister. Many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass at Saint Edward's Catholic Church, 5788 Thornton Blvd., Newark, CA 94536. Burial will be at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, CA 94538. In lieu of flowers, donations to the .
