Carol Somerville

Carol Hall Somerville May 1, 1929 - Dec. 26, 2013 Resident of San Mateo Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of Dec. 26, 2013 after spending Christmas Day surrounded by her family. Carol Joyce Hall was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 1, 1929 to Earl Hall and Agnes Russeth Hall. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, she moved to Seattle, WA where she worked for Boeing, and then moved on to her favorite career as a stewardess for Pan American Airlines in the 1950's. That job brought her to San Francisco, where in 1957 she met and married Donald Somerville. In 1958 she left flying to begin her family, and she and Don moved to Belmont where they raised their 3 children. As her children grew up, she worked at Home Yardage in San Mateo and the Emporium at Hillsdale for many years. She took Civil Service courses and then did reservations for the San Mateo County Parks Department and retired in 1992. After Don's death in 1999, she moved to Rocklin, CA where she enjoyed her dream home with a room dedicated to her knitting and sewing, and made many friends. She suffered a major stroke in 2005 but still managed to live on her own for a few years, returning to the Bay Area in 2008 to move into Atria Hillsdale in San Mateo. Predeceaseded by her parents, husband Donald Somerville and son Michael, she is survived by daughters Caryn Schraner and Kristine Somerville, son-in-law Marc Schraner, beloved grandchildren Danielle and Derek Schraner, sister Barbara Hall Kelly and brother Earl Hall Jr. and their families, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly. Her family wishes to acknowledge all of the love and care given to Mom over the last few years by the nurses and doctors at Kaiser in Redwood City and San Mateo, the staffs at Atria Hillsdale in San Mateo and Nazareth Vista in Belmont, and especially the caregivers in her last 3 months at Garden Court in the Village of San Mateo and Pathways Hospice. Services will be held at Sneider, Sullivan and O'Connell in San Mateo, with a viewing on Thursday Jan. 2, 2014 from 4pm to 7pm and a celebration of her life on Friday Jan. 3, 2014 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pathways Hospice (395 Oyster Point Blvd, South San Francisco). SNEIDER & SULLIVAN & O'CONNELL'S FUNERAL HOME (650) 343-1804 www.ssofunerals.com
