Edward (Pop-Pop) Kraft(1923 - 2013)

Edward (Pop-Pop) Kraft
Aug. 4, 1923-Sept. 7, 2013
Resident of West San Jose
While sleeping peacefully, Ed passed away on Saturday at the age of 90. His last words were "Give me my bus ticket!" He longed to be with his loving wife, Martha of 54 years, who passed away in May 1999.
Ed enjoyed living in West San Jose in the home he purchased on his GI bill in February 1967. He raised six amazing children and enjoyed being with his 18 grandkids, 29 great-grandkids, and 4 great-great grandkids.
He proudly enlisted in the Navy at age 17 in Washington D.C. after three attempts because he was considered too small. "Shorty" served as an aviation machinist mate. Ed and Martha met at a Navy dance and married on Jan. 28, 1945 in Glen Echo, Maryland. He worked as an aviation mechanic for United Airlines and transferred to the maintenance operation center in San Francisco. He was promoted to inspector and was a dedicated employee for 38 years. He chose to commute because he loved looking at the Santa Cruz Mountains.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed trips to Yosemite, Hawaii, and visiting grandkids. When renal kidney failure ended his travels in 2003, he remained optimistic with the support of the Satellite Dialysis Center in Cupertino. His loving son, Dan, cared for him until his last breath. Oscar and Felix (The Odd Couple) were inseparable.
