Enola (Zee) Rose Zeringue Romer

Enola (Zee) Rose Zeringue Romer passed away peacefully on the evening of August 22, 2013 at the age of 96. Born April 1, 1917 in Edgard, LA, Zee obtained her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in New Orleans in 1938. She was an Army
veteran, serving as a field nurse for three years in North Africa during World War II
. After the war, she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Graduate Certification in Public Health from the University of California Berkeley. Zee worked as a nurse, serving elementary and middle school children for over 25 years, in the Cambrian School District.
A resident of Saratoga for over 50 years, Zee was a founding member of Church of the Ascension, where she worshiped regularly until her death. She will be remembered for her determination, her caring, her frankness, and her cookies. She is survived by her children: Verdun Philip Romer Jr., Elizabeth (Peter) Gartenmayer, and John (Carol) Romer; her five grandchildren: Jane, Aimee, Autumn, Paige and Mackenzie; and her four great-grandchildren: Logan, Julian, Alayna, and Natalia.
Her life will be honored starting with a viewing on Tuesday, August 27th at Alameda Family Funeral Home (12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd., Saratoga) from 11:00am until 8:00pm, with family arriving at 4:30pm, and the Vigil starting at 5:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Ascension (12033 Miller Ave., Saratoga) on Wednesday, August 28th at 10:30 am, followed by graveside services at noon at Madronia Cemetery (14766 Oak Street, Saratoga).
