Resident of San Jose
Gabriel Garcia was born in Santa Barbara on May 8, 1937, and died recently at home after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sheila, his daughter Lisa (Hugh) and adored grandson Ethan, all of Willow Glen.
Gabe graduated from Santa Barbara High School, and after serving in the U.S. Army
, moved to San Jose to attend San Jose State, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's of Business Administration. He was the western region director of National Economic Development Association (NEDA), an agency of the U.S. Government. During this time, he also served on the board of Goodwill Industries and was chairman of the City of San Jose Airport Commission. Later in his career, he specialized in property management with Capitol Development Group, partnered with CourseCo, Inc., to operate the City of San Jose golf courses Los Lagos and Rancho Del Pueblo.
A private memorial service has been held. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the cardiology department at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, and Gentiva Hospice services.
