George, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New York, but grew up in Los Gatos, CA with his parents and 5 sisters, graduating from Los Gatos High. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1945; he served in Guam and Saipan until 1949. He then obtained a B.A. degree from San Jose State University and used his strong work ethic as an insurance agent in San Jose for 45 years. He found joy in his family, in travel, in collecting historic toy soldiers from all military conflicts, in posing as Uncle Sam for 4th of July block parties, and in his Greek heritage, hosting wonderful Greek Easter parties at his home. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorena, he was a wonderful father to 6 children, a fun grandpa to 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and the many young friends who called him grandpa. He was greatly loved and will be remembered as a remarkable man by family and many friends. Visitation will be June 12, 6pm at Darling Fisher-Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos. The funeral will be June 13, 10am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in San Jose. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, who provided wonderful care in his last days.
