George Pong

George Pong Resident of San Mateo George was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 24th 1924. At ten years old, he moved out west to San Francisco. After graduating from Washington High School, he went on to UC Berkeley and then pharmacy school at UC San Francisco. In 1953 George married the girl of his dreams, Dorothy Yanagi. Together they moved to San Mateo where they settled and raised their three children. George had a long and successful career as a pharmacist, starting at Ames Drugs in San Francisco and continuing in San Mateo at Schadler's Rexall and Bill's Drugs. He was so passionate about his career that even after retirement he continued to work part-time in Burlingame. George loved to travel and became an expert at cruising around the world. He was also an avid Cal Bears fan and watched as many games as he could make time for. One of George's proudest accomplishments was serving 31 years in the military, initially as a navigator on B17's. George first served with the Army Air Corp in WWII. He then served in the USAF during the Korean War and finished his military career serving in the Naval Reserves. George enjoyed keeping in touch with his fellow surviving crew members as recently as last year. George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, his children Margie Bell (Dave), Bill Pong, and Don Pong (Michelle), and his grandchildren Kendall & Chris Bell, and Danica Pong. Family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate George's life. A vigil will be held at Sneider Sullivan & O'Connell's at 7:30 PM on February 19th.
