George, 89, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his devoted wife of 66 years, Marty and his loving children: Barry Colla (Sue), Norma Bayless (Peter), Anne Anastasi, and Mary Helmers (Tom). He was "Papa" to many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in Fresno, CA to Joseph and Catherine Colla, George was preceded in death by brothers John, Tony, Fred, Al, Joe, Lou, Chester and is survived by his brother Richard. He served as a corporal in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an excellent baseball player and played many years of softball, ending in his induction into the Santa Clara County Softball Oldtimers Hall of Fame. He was involved at St. Leo the Great serving as an usher and President of the Father's Guild. He worked 57 years for Raines Chevrolet in Sunnyvale. He was kind-hearted and made us laugh with his sense of humor. He loved attending his children and grandchildren's athletic and dance events. A memorial mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Church in San Jose, Monday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, PO Box 52074, Phoenix, AZ 85072 or the .
