Howard Wurtz was born in Buffalo, NY, and died in San Jose, CA, ten days before his 94th birthday. He is survived by his wife Grace (AKA Catherine.) Howard is also survived by his son, Bill Wurtz (Ann Bobco,) of New York, NY, and his daughter, Susanne Wurtz, of Goleta, CA, as well as his step-daughter, Hilary Sang (David Schnittman) of Morgan Hill, and their four children, Caroline, Heather, James, and Zofia. Howard worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry, retiring from Santa Barbara Research Center in 1984.
Howard had many talents, and his hobby was woodworking, but his real passion was aviation, and he flew at every opportunity until his mid-eighties. In WWII, Howard joined the Army
Air Corps, and his skills and bravery were used in search and rescue work in the rugged fjords and chilly glaciers of Greenland. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
