Isabella "Toni" Antionetta Nagorna Conroy, 87, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Paradise Valley Care at the Lake, Atascadero, CA. A former resident of Burlingame, CA, she was laid to rest at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA.
Born on May 8th, 1926, daughter of Xavier and Veronica Nagorna in Winecut, Poland, she lived her formative years in Poland and Russia. Toni met her future husband who was a U.S, Army Captain in Tehran, Iran during WW2. The two married in the winter of 1945. She and her husband, Major General Chandler Raymond Conroy "Ray", shared 52 years of wedded bliss. Ray was an honored military officer having served all over the world during his career. He was the former commander of Fort Mason in San Francisco. Ray and Toni travelled extensively and lived in many different countries.
Toni was a spirited, charming, and generous woman. She had a love of hospitality and very much enjoyed entertaining her family, friends, foreign dignitaries and statesmen. She loved competition in bridge, tennis, and snow skiing. She was a staunch Republican and proud American. She was a member of Filoli, Community Gatepath, the Burlingame Country Club and many bridge groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra Hopper of Atascadero, CA and Constance Paul of Perth, AU; 5 grandchildren, Spencer Syverson, Jennifer, Jonathan, Brandon and Brittany Paul; step granddaughters Julie Chesterman and Leslie Wallace; and, 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Conroy in 1997, and, granddaughter Christine Lynn Sinclair in 2009.
