Noma Joy Evans

Noma Joy Evans 11/06/1930 - 10/31/2012 Resident of Monte Sereno Joy passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. A devoted mother and grandma, Joy leaves behind her sons Harold (Rose) Evans and Kevin (Laura) Evans, and grandchildren Justin, Grant, Heather, Allie, Billy and Jordan. She was thrilled to also welcome her two great-grandchildren, Caden and Grace. Born and raised in Stockton, Joy graduated from Nurses' Training in San Francisco and spent her 35-year career working at the Stockton State Hospital, first as a psychiatric nurse then patient rights advocate. Upon retiring in 1987, she left Stockton to be nearer her growing number of grandchildren, moving first to Texas for several years, then to London, and finally settling in Los Gatos which she called home for sixteen years. Joy was the youngest of six children born to Neal and Lillian Holmes, and was the last surviving member of the family. She was predeceased in 1967 by the love of her life, Hal Evans. Always upbeat, nurturing and quick with a kind word, she will be forever missed by her family and the many friends she has made along the way. A special thank you the team of angels from Pathways Hospice, who provided such loving support and care to Joy. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 7th at 10:30am at the First Baptist Community Church, 17765 Daves Avenue, Monte Sereno. Burial will take place the following day in Auburn, where Joy will be laid to rest beside her parents.
