It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Ruth E. Henkel. She was 100 years 4 months young. Born and raised in LaMoure, N.D., graduated from Jamestown College, she was a high school teacher before moving to Pittsburg, CA. She and husband Russell Henkel, in partnership with her sister Lee and brother-in-law Leonard Brandenburg, built and ran the Hi-Way Grocery and Moffett Motel in Mtn. View before retiring in 1974.
She is preceded in death by husband Russell Henkel, sister Lee Brandenburg, brothers-in-law Leonard Brandenburg and Earl Corbin. She is survived by loving son Robert Henkel (Chris) of Santa Cruz and devoted daughter Karla Peterson (Doug) of San Jose; younger sister Edythe Corbin of CO; nieces Barbara Whitley (Doak) and families of Auburn, CA; Judy Merrill and families of Walnut Creek, CA; Jan Noble (Everett) and family of CO.
