Vincent (Jim) Asaro, 89, passed away peacefully at his San Jose home of 59 years on Jan. 28 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was the 22nd of 23 children born on Jan. 15, 1925 to Antonio and Giuseppa Asaro of Wheeling, WV. They immigrated from Cianciana, Sicily in the early 1900s.
Jim began work in the West Virginia coal mines at age 15. At 16 he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps and joined the U.S. Army
in 1942; he was honorably discharged in 1944. Later that same year he met his future wife, Furina, on a blind date on July 4, 1944; they were married July 3, 1945. By 1953 they decided to fulfill their dream of raising their family in California. The Asaro's bought their home in 1955 in San Jose, CA. Jim retired from Sears after 27 years and Furina remained a stay-at-home-mother until her passing in 2006.
Jim loved to fish, hunt, and play cards along with embarking on road trips all across California. He was also an amateur geographer and historian.
Jim is survived by all 5 children: Richard Asaro of Oregon; Vincent Asaro Jr. of Oregon; Christina Aasen of California; Cindy Cirincione of Montana, and Michael Asaro of Montana
8 Grandchildren: Anthony Asaro; Alexandria Asaro; Althea Asaro; Amber Asaro; Patrina Allen; Kyle Cirincione; Randi Cirincione; Emily Asaro 7 Great Grandchildren:Gianna Asaro; Micheala Allen; Geoffrey Allen; Haden Cirincione; Ethan Cirincione; Alisson Joel Cirincione; Payton Weigle Burial was at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella on Monday, Feb. 10th with full military honors.
