William E. Chapman died on January 6, surrounded by his family. All who knew him will miss his wisdom, courage, and wit.
Bill was born in Russellville, KY and attended Russellville High School. He graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a degree in business administration. After serving with the U.S. Army Reserves, Bill began his career with Westinghouse. He later held senior executive positions at companies including Litronix, Vicom, and Lee Hecht Harrison. A member of the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos for nearly 40 years, he was elected to 3 terms as elder. Bill was active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club and worked with local organizations serving the homeless. He enjoyed fine cuisine, good books, Stanford sports, playing with his grandchildren, and taking care of the family dog, Henry.
Bill is survived by Brenda, his loving wife of 53 years; his devoted children Holly Chapman Huckaby and Robert Gray Chapman of San Jose; his grandchildren Sarah Huckaby, Joseph Huckaby, and James Huckaby of San Jose; and his brother Joseph Lan Wood of Lexington, KY. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, 16575 Shannon Road, Los Gatos, CA 95032. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the InnVision Shelter Network or to the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos.
