Former Resident of San Jose
Former San Jose resident, William (Willie) L. Paul, took his final flight on Oct 12, 2013. He leaves this earth to rejoin with the great love of his life, Theresa (Terry). He was 94 years old.
William Lewis Paul was born on May 18, 1919 in Kingston, Pennsylvania, to William and Bessie Paul. He attended Kingston High School. He joined the Navy in 1940, retiring as a Navy Chief in 1960.
Willie is survived by his two children, daughter, Jan Bernstein (husband Jerry) and son, Ric Paul (wife Carol); two beautiful granddaughters, Jenelle Bernstein-Nilluka (husband Jeff) and Noelle Paul; two adorable great-grandsons, Jamis and Jered Nilluka; and his beloved younger brother, Richard Paul of Washington, North Carolina, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In 1944, Willie met and married his soul mate, Theresa, in Santa Monica, California, and began their long life together in San Jose, California, parted only by Terry's passing in 2004.
During Willie's Naval career, he served on the USS Yorktown (CVA-10), and was part of the post WWII
Berlin Airlift. He completed his last years in the Navy at Moffett Naval Base in Mountain View, California.
Willie also leaves behind a legacy as the retired owner of the still thriving Wheel Away Cycle Center in Campbell, California, which he opened in 1963. Willie handed the reins of Wheel Away over to his son, Ric, in 2005 when he finally retired at the age of 85 years old.
