Hatsuyo Sakamoto Obituary

Hatsuyo "Polly" Sakamoto

Resident of Campbell

Died peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at age 84. She was born on November 23, 1925 to parents Chiyomi & Kiyoto Shinagawa. Polly spent three years in Japanese Internment Camps at Santa Anita, CA and Heart Mountain, Wyoming, of which she shared stories with family members, but never complained of the hardships she endured. She was a smart, strong-minded, no fuss-attitude, tomboy, who, through her later years, loved gardening, reading novels, doing crossword & Sudoku puzzles & watching sports on TV while relaxing in her favorite bedroom recliner chair. Polly also enjoyed bowling with her Yu-Ai Kai senior group & frequent gambling trips to Reno.

Polly is preceded by her brother, the late Victor Shinagawa, & she is survived by her sister, Betty Fujiko, half-sister, Fujiko Shinagawa, her two children, Craig Sakamoto & Jacqueline Yamaguchi, & grandchildren, Matthew Kevin & Dorene.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 7pm at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin on 640 N. 5th Street, San Jose, CA 95112. In honor of Polly's spirit, the family requests your presence in business casual attire, no formality (avoid wearing all black - come as you are). The family invites those present to share stories & for those unable to attend, please share at www.willowglenfuneralhome.com and celebrate the life of Hatsuyo "Polly" Sakamoto.
