Rhoda Verner Obituary

Rhoda A. Verner
September 10, 1951~November 8, 2011
Resident of Saratoga
Rhoda Verner, beloved daughter of Euna and Elmer Fought of Saratoga, passed away peacefully at her Saratoga home on November 8, 2011 after a fourteen month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 10, 1951 in Ohio but was raised in California. She leaves behind her parents, brothers Dennis (Marianne) Fought of San Jose, Daryl Fought of Grass Valley, Charles (Cyndy) Fought of Las Vegas, sisters Michaela (Richard) Lango of Santa Clara, Cheryl (Bill) Milward of San Jose, numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
Rhoda devoted more than half of her life to helping companies deliver and operate successful Information Technology (IT) systems. Rhoda was an IT Management Consultant at StrataFusion, a Los Altos based consulting Firm. Previously, she was with Johnson Johnson starting at Lifescan Inc. in 1993. In 1997 she moved to Johnson Johnson Asia Pacific and eventually became the Vice President of Information Management in Asia Pacific. At this time she worked mostly out of Singapore. Previously she was employed as Chief Information Officer for XESystems (formerly Xerox Engineering Systems). Her 30 year career included roles at Gould Semiconductor, Datapoint Corporation and Varian Associates.
Rhoda has won a number of awards and accolades and in 1996 was named of the Top 100 Women in Computing (USA) by McGraw Hill. In 2005, she was acknowledged in the new Cisco publication, "Net Impact", for her work in China. She has been a frequent speaker at industry conferences and forums.
Rhoda's lifelong passion was to visit new places worldwide. Fortunately her career afforded her the travel opportunities to travel throughout the Orient. She also traveled with friends and family to most of the other continents. She was well loved and will be missed dearly by many.
Services will be held on Monday, Nov 14, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Alameda Family Funeral Home, 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga. Interment will follow at a later date as will a Celebration of Life.

I think of Rhoda every time I hear someone talk about Singapore. We both bonded over our love for travel. I am still traveling the world. Sadly, I´ve lost more friends to pancreatic cancer but now see that they are increasing survival rates! Miss you Rhoda!

Rhoda was a great friend. I met her in my teens. Travelled together to Europe and supported each other as we figured out our life path. I think of her often and miss her a lot.

I worked with Rhoda on her property in Princeton NJ. I was her contractor and advisor and if given more time ,I'm sure her Friend. I loved to make her laugh. I liked her straight forward business like manner. We worked well together and she was hands down my favorite customer. I never met her In person and now I can put a face to the voice. She was truley a beautifull person inside and out. I will miss her deeply. RIP Rhoda. Brian

Rhoda and I worked together a long time ago but we've stayed in contact off and on over the years. I thoroughly enjoyed her travel adventures vicariously and treasure the journals she shared.

My heart goes out to the family and her many friends, we sorely miss her and her infectious happy perspectives.

I'm sure she's hip deep in yet another grand adventure with her new friends.

I bid you farewell, you will be missed forever!

To all of Rhoda's family and wide circle of friends, my heart is saddened by her death. I will miss my dear high school friend. I so remember the wide smile she wore every time I saw her. I sensed these were her final days, but wish there had been more of them. I know she is in heaven and most likely smiling down on us right now. She has traveled to her final destination and now is at peace and out of pain. Rhoda I will miss you!

Rhoda and I worked closely together as volunteers to help women managers develop executive leadership skills. It was immediately obvious that she was extraordinarily warm, bright, caring, generous, and honest. My deepest sympathies go to her family and friends who I know will miss all of Rhoda's wonderful qualities.
