To: My friend General Manson and his family Had the opportunity to work with Hugh at Embry-Riddle Aero. University in Daytona Beach, Florida for several years prior to joining the US Air Force and flying as a pilot for over 30+ years (F-111F, C-141 & C-17 Vice Commander). General Manson was a brilliant officer. I learned a lot from him while a student. My heart felt sympathy goes out to the family for their great loss!

I only met Hugh a couple of times and vividly remember him tell of he and his brother Peter being the "galley slaves" of my grandfather James Caruthers Paul, their uncle, in the coastal marshes of McIntosh county Georgia. He was the son of my maternal grandmother's Roberta Clark Paul nee Clark twin sister Sarah Clark Manson nee Clark. I have many fond memories of my great aunt Sadie and memories of family tales about their Manson cousins, aunt Sadie and uncle Hugh. He was revered by the family for his service to his country and I was impressed by his forthright attitude toward others the times I met him. He will be sorely missed as a Gentleman of this world.

My maternal Grandmother Roberta Clark Paul nee Clark was his mother's twin sister Sarah Clark Manson nee Clark. I grew up knowing Great Aunt Sadie very well and she was a beloved family member. I only met Hugh Boyd Jr. a few times and always was impressed by his magnanimous and benevolent character. He used to quip that he and his brother Peter were often my Grandfather James Caruthers Pauls' (their uncle) "galley slaves" as they rowed him about in the McIntosh County's marsh tributaries. He was a true American hero and will be much missed by our families.

It saddens me to learn of Hugh Boyd's death. My memories of him go back to happy days at Crescent, our grandmother's summer home on a high bluff overlooking a salt water creek on the coast of Georgia.
