Duane Rough Obituary

Duane Edward Rough Sr.
June 19, 1944 - October 27, 2013
Resident of Vancouver, WA
It is with profound sadness that we are announcing the passing of Duane Edward Rough Sr. on October 27. Duane was born in Burlingame, CA to father Benjamin Rough and mother Mildred Offenbach. He graduated from Pittsburgh High School in 1963 and then continued on to receive his AA from Diablo Valley College, where he met and then married his wife Teresa Ann Sot on September 18, 1965. Duane then attended San Francisco State earning his BA. While attending San Francisco State Duane and his wife got a surprise that showed up on August 3, 1967 when their son Duane Edward Rough Jr. was born. Continuing his education at San Jose State he earned his Masters in education and his teaching credentials. After completing his education Duane got another little surprise that arrived on August 5, 1970 when his wife gave birth to twins Benjamin Edward Rough and Robin Michelle Rough.
Duane went on to teach and then later on to become the principle at Laneview Elementary School where he is still remembered for his inspirational ways of teaching subject and more importantly showing the students how to learn. Many of his students still remember the many trips and crazy man hikes he would take them on at Yosemite National Park, Sunset beach and many other places. In 1975 Duane opened up his first flower shop in San Ramon, CA that grew into four thriving stores that he ran with his wife. Duane and his wife lived in Danville, CA for 25 years until he sold his flower shops and moved to Washington. Once in Washington, with the help of his son Duane, he again became an entrepreneur and ran yet another successful family business that he helped operate until it was sold in 2007. Afterwards he decided to work more on his favorite pastime photographing the world around him.
Duane was a loving husband, father, grandfather and mentor who will be missed greatly by his family, his friends and his former students. He will be remembered for his time spent exploring new places, his gift of photography, his sage advice and his willingness to be there if you just needed to talk to someone. Duane we all love you and miss with all our hearts, and may you sleep in the stars.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Teresa and his mother Mildred. As well as his sons Duane and Benjamin and daughter Robin. And his grandchildren Samantha, DJ, Jacob, Christopher, Michael, Hannah, Zachery and Madison. A memorial Service for family will be held over Thanksgiving weekend. For friends and former students of Duane a memorial hike is being coordinated for June 2014, if you would like to participate email the family at [email protected] or post your comments on www.facebook.com/duane.rough.3 Duane's wife will be looking forward to your emails and posts.

Dear Terri, Duane Jr., Robin, and Benny,
We were so sorry to hear of Duane's passing. Although we have been out of touch since the "flower" years, I have thought of you all often. I am so happy to see that you and he continued to be successful and that he had such a wonderful and supportive family.

Teresa,
It is with great sadness that I read of Duane.s passing. He
was always considered a great friend in the flower business. Many times Duane, Bob Gilmore and I would sit and discuss the many problems of the world. Duane,s import was always
an education for me. It was always a pleasure to see you and Duane come into Bob Gilmore.s in Saratoga. He will be greatly miss not only by his family but by the many people he
touched in his life.
God Bless Him.

Sincerely,

Dick Williams
