Jeffrey Rehrig Obituary
October 7, 1959 - June 18, 2013
Resident of Milpitas
Founder of The Eunice Kennedy Shriver Academies.
Jeff was a teacher of Special Education Students for 14 years. He was a member of the CTA and NEA. He created "The Eunice Kennedy Shriver Academy" at William C. Overfelt High School. His unique curriculum was adopted throughout the East Side Union High School District and has been used by other districts as well.
Jeff developed a district wide talent show called, "Stars For A Night" that showcased the diverse talents of Special Education Students in the ESUHD.
Jeff received his Masters Degree in Special Education from San Jose State University. Jeff put himself through college as a DJ for Weddings and Charitable Events.
His love for his dogs and cats and compassion for animals was well known to family, friends, and students.
Jeff is survived by his parents, Pat and Bob, his brother Gregg; uncles and aunts Jack and Anita Rehrig. Anthony and Sydney Bettencourt, Doreen Ellsworth, cousins Pete and Karin Bettencourt, Dianne and Nicole McShane and numerous other cousins in California and Utah.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church, 2040 Nassau Drive, San Jose.

I missed seeing Greg the last time I was in Milpitas. He and his family were great mentors to me when I was in Boy Scouts Troop 107 back in the early 1970's. I'm sorry to see his passing, but encouraged by the many activities and achievements in his life. In your debt, Tim Moench

I worked closely with, Mr. Rehrig, for only one year, and was amazed at how he worked with students! I would just watch him, and pay attention to what he did. I think he was a"Genius"in his ability to work with students. He was a mentor to me. I would not have been as affective with that one student assigned to me if it wasn't for Jeff and the students supportive mother. In Jeff's last year of teaching, he was absent for several months,so, I practiced the principles he taught me, and great things were accomplished in that student. Thank you Jeff, for making my life a better place. Your parents knew this, and I know must be, so, “Very proud of you”.

Jeff was a friend and a colleague. He was also the high school teacher for both my sons (Brandon and Joshua). I had the privilege of watching him grow personally and professionally from day one. He had a great deal of patience with not only his students, but parents as well. Jeff always had a smile on his face. I will always appreciate what he did for my family.

Jeff Rehrig was funny, nice to be around, energetic teacher who loved his kids in special ed. You always see kids after they graduate come back to say hi. Or kids who call him on a regular basis to say hi and they already graduated. With such heavy heart and sadness of his loss that we all feel.

I feel very sad to know that such a great teacher, leader, friend and special person has left all of us. Jeff had such a big heart and dedication to his students. If someone said his students couldn't he would prove them wrong. Jeff was at his best and in his prime when he was with his students. I will miss your big smile. We will all see you again my friend in heaven. Thank you Jeff for all you did.

I met Jeff at the first dance my son attended as a freshman. He was deejaying and having the time of his life. I had the chance to talk to him briefly. One comment that he made has stuck with me since then. He said that he once told his friends that he would rather hang out with these kids then them. He said that "his kids didn't worry about what other people thought. They just had fun and enjoyed life." He lived through those kids and made them smile and laugh. He had a kind heart and encouraging words. Always there to make the dances fun. Always there to make the Talent show a success. I saw him at the picnics interacting with his class as well as the other kids. Always making them laugh. It takes a special kind of person to want to dedicate their life to teaching and working with kids with special needs. I am happy that we got the opportunity to know him. He will be missed.

Jeff has been a huge part of my and my son, Cezar's life for the last two years. He has helped Cezar become a strong, independent and loving man. All of his students will carry on his legacy. Mr. Rehrig has been compassionate, understanding, supportive and loving to me and my family and I can not hold back the tears today because he was always someone I could talk to and rely on. Not having him here is going to be hard for both Cezar and I but I know he is in a better place free of pain and watching over my son.
Thank You Jeff for always going that extra mile for Cezar and taking the time to really get to know and understand him. There will never be another teacher like you!!! XOXO

It was a honor and privilege to have known Mr.Rehrig, he was one of the greatest teacher to our son Manuel Villalovos with special needs disabilities at Overfelt High school one of the greatest teachers, he taught him to achive and accomplish many valuable lessons in his life, Thank you for all the wonderful times and summer trips that you have given him and many other student, those times and memories he'll never forget! Jeff's carefree and patient spirit encouraged students to do and be their best. Our Royals embraced the opportunity to learn each day in his classroom.....the room on campus and those "rooms" he used as he took students out in our community to learn new things needed for life after high school! While I worked with Jeff in his classroom, he help me develop the fundamental belief that people with disabilities are capable of so much at school and in the community. He had a beautiful heart, a determined mind, and a witty sense of humor.
Now that I have my own classroom, I plan to carry on his tradition of pushing students to reach their maximum potential.

After hearing what had happened, I was held aback at the fact that Jeff had passed. Jeff was a great friend and teacher to all my Children and especially to my Son Christopher. Jeff accomplished doing many good things for both his students and parents and brought his students to a level no one ever thought they could achieve as well as giving them the greatest gift which is HOPE! and that to me is a great legacy to leave behind. So many memories, so little time. Mr.Rehrig was an all around great teacher as well as a great friend to my son Mariano. He taught him so many valuable lessons about school and about life in general. He will always be remembered for his great DJing to his "Special Adventure" trips that he would take Mariano and other students on during the summer. RIP Mr. Rehrig you will be missed dearly.
