Pamela Nielsen

Pamela Nielsen Resident of Los Altos 4/2/21 - 1/19/13 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and mother-in-law PAMELA NIELSEN, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2013. She will be greatly missed by her devoted children, their families, and many friends in the Bay Area and Australia. Pamela was born April 2, 1921 and lived in Perth, Western Australia until her marriage to US Naval officer William C. Nielsen (Bill), whereupon they embarked on an exciting military life on both US coasts for the next 20 years. In 1960, the family settled in Los Altos where Pamela served her community for the next 50 years. Bill passed away in 1985. Pamela was active in the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered more than 10,000 hours that spanned nearly 50 years. She was well known at El Camino Hospital for her comforting way, her luscious lemon cake, her jaunty manner and her Australian accent. She was also a docent for more than a dozen years at Filoli House in Woodside where her garden tours were popular due to her extensive knowledge and love of plants, flowers and trees. Pamela donated her artistic flair to the Altar Guild at Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos arranging altar flowers. She also volunteered at the Cancer Society "Discovery Shop". Pamela was a regular patron of the Woodland Library. Survivors include Pamela's son, Greg, and wife, Kathy; their daughters Lisa, Julie and Kristina; daughter Linda Nielsen Healey, her husband Bill and & family; and daughter Susan Nielsen Souza, husband, Kevin, and their children Tyler and Kate. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Road, Los Altos, at 11:00am on Thursday, January 31.
