Alan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Al was born as the youngest of Helen and Donald C. Pors' 5 children, growing up in Belmont, CA. He attended Serra High School and graduated from San Jose State University in 1974. Alan spent his entire career as a teacher in the East Side Union High School District, combing his years at William C. Overfelt High School (35 years) and Foothill High School (3 years), before retiring in May, 2012. Alan will be greatly missed by his loving family: Ofelia, wife of 18 years, son, Justin (Amanda), and daughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his loving sister Claire Thorpe (George, deceased), brother and best friend Jim Pors (Nancy), and sisters-in-law Patricia Pors and Joyce Pors. Al was also survived by 8 cousins, 10 nieces and nephews, 23 grand nieces and nephews, and ex-wife Dianne Pors. Alan was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Donald F. Pors. As an educator, Alan had an amazing gift. He inspired students with his humor and interesting approaches to teaching mathematics. He was dedicated to his profession and was always available to guide students with advice and understanding. Al was an amazing husband, father, brother, teacher and friend. He dedicated his life to his family and proved to be the life of the party. He will be remembered. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 12noon at St. Christopers Church, 2278 Booksin Ave., San Jose.
