Antionette (Toni) Mortensen Obituary
Antionette (Toni) Mortensen
May 18, 1935 - April 16, 2013
Resident of Paso Robles
Antionette Lee Mortensen, a fourth generation San Josean, born on May 18th, 1935, passed away in Paso Robles on April 16th. She was preceded in death by her parents Anthony Coronado and Peggy Bellairs and her brother Bobby.
Toni graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1952 and immediately entered the working world. However, her life truly bloomed two years later on the "magical night" of March 7th, 1954 when at the USO, she met the love of her life and soul mate, Laurence Mortensen. They married October 17th of the same year and Toni always said, "My life really began on my wedding day."
Toni and Larry purchased a home in Campbell and raised five children - and while Toni liked being a wife and mother, she also enjoyed the working world - in 1967 she went to work for the DMV as a part time clerk/typist and retired in 1995 as Operations Officer of the Los Gatos office - and she also enjoyed being deeply involved in St. Lucy's Church ministries.
However, after living in Santa Clara County for 67 years, Toni said it was "time for a change" and she and Larry decided to move to the smaller and less congested community of Paso Robles - a beautiful area not far from the ocean and it was definitely the place for them. There, Toni and Larry joined St. Rose of Lima Church and became active in the church ministries and also delivered Meals On Wheels throughout the community.
There were many things Toni enjoyed in her life - being with friends, musical theater, movies, politics, sports (Go Giants!), RVing and travel - cruising as well journeying on ten religious pilgrimages all over Europe and The Holy Land with Father Christopher Bennett - and though Toni often said, "The experiences and spiritual highs in her life are too numerous to mention", it was her favorite past-time that brought her the biggest smile: sitting back and observing her family interact with such fun, laughter and love.
Survived by Larry, the love of her life of nearly 59 years and son Gregory (Gena) Mortensen, daughters Cristina (Dan) Swan, Monica (Bob) Dickson, Tanya Mortensen, Marta (Matt) Crowder and grandchildren Sean and Bryan Moriarty, Gregory and John Dickson, Denise and Glenn Kranich along with great-grandchildren Ayden Dickson and Katelyn and Wyatt Kranich, Toni has "walked on" and "gone home" having truly enjoyed a beautiful life which she often summed up by saying, "it's all about faith, family and friends." Memorial Service to be held at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 2350 Winchester Blvd. in Campbell on Friday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church activity center.
