Barbara Caulfield Obituary

Barbara Caulfield

It is with deep sorrow that Kaye Scholer LLP mourns the passing of our friend and esteemed colleague, Barbara Caulfield. Ms. Caulfield was recognized as one of the leading complex intellectual property litigation lawyers for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the country.

Prior to joining Kaye Scholer as Partner, Ms. Caulfield served as the Managing Partner of Dewey & LeBoeuf's Silicon Valley office, served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Affymetrix, Inc., a biotechnology company in Silicon Valley, and served as a United States District Judge in the Northern District of California from 19911994.

In addition, she taught courses at Northwestern Law School, University of California, Hastings College of Law and University of Oregon Law School. Ms. Caulfield was active in lecturing, and led trial advocacy programs around the country, including at Harvard University Law School and the San Francisco Bar Association Advocacy Training Program.

Ms. Caulfield was selected as one of The Daily Journal's "Top Women Litigators," highlighting women working on cutting-edge cases, in both 2009 and 2010. We extend our deepest condolences to Barbara's family. She was a true giant in the legal profession, and will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women's Cancer Resource Center of Oakland, California (http://www.wcrc.org/).

Barbara did amazing things to people I care very much. Her nurturing heart was remarkable. That alone made me an admirer of her. She departed way too early...
