Bonnie Sayre Obituary
Bonnie Sayre
Resident of Cupertino
Bonnie (Ludwig) Sayre was born on Jan. 6, 1938 in San Francisco and passed away on April 5, 2013 at El Camino Hospital in Mtn. View. She went head on into a battle with ALS and, in doing so, she further earned the respect and love of her friends and family.
Bonnie was intensely passionate about her hobbies. She was a born entertainer. She danced and sang in vaudeville and volunteered to entertain at veterans' hospitals during and after WWII. Bonnie was a model from age five through her teen years. She won a nationwide contest for 'most attractive legs' after a sailor who admired her 'gams' submitted a photo. She never stopped dancing. Most recently, Bonnie started ballroom dancing and immediately impressed the professionals. She was also once president of the Boots 'n' Buckles Dance club. Bonnie was also an avid bowler and took up the sport again after 20 years absence.
In her culinary career she worked in catering at Adobe for several years and ran the first cafe for the Tech Museum of Innovation. Bonnie and her husband Bill were among The Tech's earliest supporters.
Bonnie is survived by a son, Kenneth Sayre (Julie); two daughters: Diana Sayre (Kim) and Jill de Bar (Mark) and three grandchildren: Ginny Sayre, Michelle Louis (Hany), and Nick de Bar. Her husband, Bill Sayre, passed in 2007. She will be missed by friends, family, and especially her two King Charles Cavalier Spaniels whom she doted on until the end.
Funeral service will be Weds., April 17, 2:00p.m. at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino in Mtn. View. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association (alsa.org) in her name.
