June 6, 1926 ~ July 14, 2013
Resident of Saratoga
Calvin Coran was a former Director of Facilities for the Santa Clara County and subsequently for the City of Palo Alto. He was a World War II veteran and fought in General Patton's Army in their race across Germany in 1945. "Cal" Coran died Sunday July 14, 2013 after a short battle with cancer.
Cal was born on June 9, 1926, in St Louis, Missouri. He met Dolly, his wife of 66 years, at a USO dance in New York city. After the war ended they returned to Missouri where Cal graduated from Washington University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Outside of his technical persona, Cal Coran was a true "Renaissance Man" - an artist and a painter of remarkable skill. As one family member often said, his paintings and sculptures came from "Cal's other head".
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Ted, Clifton and Dan, and nine grandchildren. He and Dolly endured the tragic loss of their daughter in 1977.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA.
